I can't afford college! How do I go there?
Ok. I’m a HS freshman. I’ve been looking at all of the colleges that I want to attend, and I can’t afford ANY of them!
Here are my stats thus far:
4.0 GPA (3.69 cumulative, but it’ll be higher by the time I graduate)
1 AP class (A in the course….predicting 4 or 5 on the exam)
4.1 HPA (again, it’ll be higher by the time I graduate)
I have one of the most rigorous schedules in my school, check it out:
AP Human Geography
Algebra 2 Honors
Health Science 1 Honors
Biology Honors
Spanish 1
P.E.
English 1 Honors
Extra: I dunno….I took a SAT practice test, and I got 2120.
I’m not in a club this year (because I’m focused on getting straight A’s), but I will join HOSA, NHS, and either Math Honor Society or Spanish Honor Society next year.
I’m going to volunteer at a hospital during the summer. (I’ll have over 100 hours by the time I graduate)
I want to attend colleges such as Boston University, NYU, and Johns Hopkins. How the hell do I get there? I can’t afford it at all. The total costs for each school are over $50,000!
Do these colleges offer free rides to kids whose parents earn less than $50,000 annually? How do I obtain a full scholarship?
You seem to be on the right track for a scholarship…keep up what you’re doing. There is always financial aid that can supplement cost if you do get some type of scholarship. Financial aid consists of Federal Grants and Student Loans. Federal Grants you do not have to pay back, but it is determined by income. In your case since you will be considered a dependant student when you start college it will go by your parents income and yours if you filed taxes. Don’t think just because the school that you want to attend has a higher tuition then most that it is out of reach. Keep doing what you’re doing, get your parent/s on board with you, and you’ll be okay.

Contact the college and ask to speak to a financial aide personal. Tell them your situation and they will be able to tell you what grants and scholarships you qualify for. Do this asap!
